Google adds new alerts of suspicious activity

jeudi 1 juillet 2010

A few months ago, Google reported that it would be adding alerts on suspicious activity in the accounts of users. And for suspicious activity relating to unusual patterns in the sessions: if a person logs on to Madrid, and in half an hour from Los Angeles does, surely there is something to be suspicious. Are those situations that cause the above warning. This only happened when working in the environment of GMail, because it is currently the most used services. Due to the good results obtained from this practice, Google has incorporated this alarm system in more pages, now in the homepage of the Dashboard (board) where they are shortcuts to the links on Google, you can see notifications this style.

It seems that it is a new layer of protection for users, which may expand to other services later. Until that comes, now there are two places where we can check for suspicious activity in the accounts. Congratulations to Google for this initiative.

We woke up today with new news for those who use the Google online office suite, Google Docs is that many users use their handsets to work from it and Google could not let the opportunity to launch a document viewer without the need for download any of them and occupy memory.

So, Google Docs Viewer is available to users with terminals Android, iPhone and IPAD, provided that they brought into the address bar of your browser the following address: docs.google.com

It would also be more than the company began to think of an online publisher of the documents that we store on our account, because with the trend that we have lately in the market with enough terminals and possible Oversized Tablets that appear on the market, would all a point in favor of Big Brother on the network.

In the event many developers will attend, so the idea is that they see the product and encourage them to create software using this technology for mid-June and users can enjoy Flash 10.1 on their

Other manufacturers, and companies like RIM, Palm,

Google Goggles translates texts from a photograph from Android

samedi 8 mai 2010

Although Barcelona, Google showed this feature, which could only translate texts from German, is far from the Android Market when we have the latest service updates Google Goggles, which from a photograph taken with our terminal with operating system and application installed, we can get enough information.

But in this presentation and update, Google has sought to provide Goggles capacity to translate texts from a photograph. The example I have found very successful. You never have traveled and have had to ask a waiter what the hell was what it said or what was that dish?

Surely, after the response, you may have been sweet pulp thinking "if I knew the translation would these things." Well that's exactly what Google Goggles is concerned, take a picture of a text and translation will be simultaneous from your terminal. Yes, Goggles does not recognize any language, although we assume that will increase with the updates. Currently you can read Spanish, English, German, Italian and French and can translate a few more.

chromeTouch - interesting extension to navigate through touch screens

It is a shame that we can bring you first hand the results of this extension is that Google Chrome, if I remember correctly, included in Windows7 Internet Explorer is the only one to let you navigate with ease through a website without need to use the mouse.

You may have a tablet in your power and while it is true that with any browser you can make scrolling with the sidebar, you will hardly get around web pages as if it were a mobile terminal.

But
Google Chrome has a very interesting extension called chromeTouch, which as its name suggests, lets you convert to a browser Chrome optimized for touch panels. You can move around the screen using your fingers, in addition to marking text, allowing the user to choose among several options, if only we want to move through the site we are visiting, as well as the option to mark text and the application itself is to detect if we want to underline text.

Interesting extension to Google Chrome and more with everything that lies ahead in a few months with a barrage of new touchscreen computers, where a browser with touch capabilities and user freedom throughout your screen, you can be the key.

Google adds sidebar to search - new search engine look

You've probably already noticed the new format that presents Google's is that from now we'll have a new column in the presentation where we can "filter" a little more the results of our queries to the search engine.

As you can see at the top, where we have submitted a screenshot of the new format, where you can see all that we have to narrow searches such as searching for blogs, news, pictures, videos, maps, etc ... well restricted by language or even by date, to get the results "fresh" and newer. But here is not everything, but Google in its mobile version, has also undergone a change quite similar, although for now operating only in the United States, but is expected to expand to other regions as soon as possible.

Fortunately there are many sources of information which can provide information relevant and useful enough. In SEOptimise has published a list of 30 factors or tips on search engine optimization (SEO) that bloggers should take into account when optimizing their content. Many of these tips are trivial and known by those who have an average level of knowledge about SEO, but that does not diminish the value of the item. For example:

Only the first link account. If you link to one URL several times in a document, it appears that the first link is the one with more weight.
nofollow links if they are important but have less weight. Many people's worst despise the truth is that a nofollow link is useful, but obviously it is less than a dofollow link. It is recommended to link to articles to increase the amount of incoming links.

Cyberattack Targeted Google Password System

lundi 3 mai 2010

There continue to be more details on the attacks on Google in China, this time are more specific and relate to the safety of all users of Google services. Here is a brief account of the facts:

• Chinese Hackers attempt an attack on Google.
• Noticing this, the Mountain View company ceases to
censor their search results.
• Start the bickering. The Chinese government warned Google to comply with its rules and if he leaves.
• Representing U.S. interests outside the White House position on the facts.
The Chinese government denies any connection with the attacks.
• It is found that the Asian nation's government is lying. They start out the first names.
• As highlighted, the Beijing government promises to punish those responsible.
• The tension grows and
Google takes a defiant stance predicting his departure from the Chinese market.

It has been much criticism of Google for defending their interests in such a way, but to learn more about the role of attack, we note that no wonder. Now comes to light that the real objective of the hackers was not simply attacking dissent, the jackpot was violating the Google login system called Gaia and serves as identification for many sites such as GMail. The problem is that there are Google services for which people pay, which means that billing information (credit cards, bank accounts) could be exposed and used in ways harmful to users. The sensitive data here is that the attack was possible to obtain the source code for Gaia with which the security of our data is in doubt.

Although until now nothing has happened relevant to this situation, we should not be so trusting. Google does not officially pronounce, so it is speculated that there is already a backup plan to ensure the protection of user data. In any way change the password regularly is not a bad idea, whether or not hackers.

Chromium browser run on the Nokia N900

vendredi 16 avril 2010

Some enthusiasts have managed to carry a version of Chromium 32-bits made for Debian, the project behind Google's browser. Unlike other projects where only part of the project portal, this is the full version of the browser, as it is available for computers, thus all the advantages that desktop users, owners also have a Nokia N900. The process to install the browser on the phone has been published, and impressively is not very difficult since it only requires a few commands executed from a terminal. These are the steps required:

• Download the needed packages and put them in the root of the N900.
• In the console, type root and press enter.
• Type cd / home / user / MyDocs / dpkg-i file-name-descargado.deb
• Run dpkg-i file-name-descargado.deb
With that technically it is sufficient to have a full version of Chromium on the N900, with support for various plugins (Flash course included). I wish there were benchmarks (performance tests) to see if it is usable or is it just to have it as an experiment.

Google Testing Google Voice Desktop App Internally

Apparently Google is not running as to remove Google Voice concerns and also the service, where users gather all the phone numbers and can receive voice messages as if it were an email.

So it's best to compete in the IP telephony world, what better way to begin to develop a desktop application or Desktop, where the user can recir, send calls from both the network and from mobile phones or fixed lines, as we have the majority in our house.

For now, Google has not confirmed anything, but from

Google buys Episodic

mardi 6 avril 2010

Google is unstoppable in terms of shopping, and more and more companies added to its portfolio of acquired entities. This occasion has purchased a video platform called Episodic, who had a role in providing tools for those in the field of broadcasting and transmission of events in high definition (HD), such as sporting events. Besides offering a platform for on-demand videos, Episodic offered its customers a sort of Google Analytics on each video, to record the user activity. The number of observers, the time spent watching video, place of origin, connection speed, geographic location, etc..

In conjunction with the statistics module, Episodic made available to users, a system of monetization of content, through advertisements in the videos (such as in YouTube). Given these characteristics, it is logical to assume that the backend of Episodic YouTube will reinforce in many tasks where the site is weak.

No details were specified on the transaction (do not know what was the final purchase price), but it is clear that Google is going around in terms of Internet videos.

twitter translate tweets automatically, with help from Google

dimanche 28 mars 2010

Now that Twitter is available not only in English, are doing many positive things for internationalizing the service as possible, given the enormous volume of users from around the world. It would not be surprising that the staff is preparing Twitter developments regarding the ability to view content in one language or another.

A basic feature would be for example, tweets automatically translate to the language preferred by each user, would like to incorporate a translation service perfectly camouflaged in the Twitter interface. In fact since this can be achieved, although it is by no means official. Using some Greasemonkey scripts can make twitts automatically translate, but it is always better to have an inhouse solution (developed by the same developers of Twitter) for reasons of performance, interoperability and efficiency of course.

All this comes in the wake of a screen shot of Mark Hachman, AppScout editor who realized that there is a link in the sidebar to translate Tweets. For now you can only translate from any language into English, and the service is provided by Google.

Although at least this change, I think it is an interesting addition but especially useful, especially for those who follow people of different nationalities. Let's see if more news comes about Twitter and the use of language in the information.
